Socratic Seminar #5
Jesus as the True Vine
Scripture Reading: John 15:1-13
Opening Question:
What word or phrase stands out most to you?
Core Question 1:
Based on this Scripture, what do we learn about work and rest?
Core Question 2:
There are so many demands on our time, so many ‘good’ things that we can do, that it is easy to become a tangled mess of branches. Living well requires that we allow some things to be pruned from our lives in order to have time and energy to do the things for which we were made.
If you think about your life as a plant, what branches are most fruitful in your life? What branches need to be cut off?
Core Question 3:
God designed us to follow a pattern of work and rest. How do both work and rest require faith? Which is harder?
Concluding Question:
How can we, as the church, live a healthy balance of work and rest?
