Miracles in God’s Garden
Matthew 19:26
With God all things are possible.
Acorn to Oak Tree
The world that God made is full of miracles. Impossible things are happening around us all the time, if we will take time to notice them.
Water skippers can walk on water, and a species of frog high in the Andes mountains freezes solid every night—its heart restarting when it’s thawed by the warmth of the daytime Sun.
The oak tree in our backyard is one of the miracles that my family sees every day. It began its life as a tiny acorn that fell from its parent tree over 100 years ago.
Somehow, a seed once the size of a penny has grown into a giant that now towers high above the roof of our house. Now, it is a parent tree, dropping hundreds of baby acorns of its own every year, starting the process over again.
Talk about a miracle! How does an acorn know how to grow into a tree? And where does the ‘stuff’ it uses to grow come from, considering the fact that trees have never eaten a single bite of food in their lives?
With God, all things are possible.
Watch The Americas: Episode 7 (The Andes) to learn about some of the world’s most amazing creatures. From cliff-dwelling bears to ducks living in scalding hot geothermal waters, you’ll be surprised by nature’s ability to adapt to extreme living conditions.
Look for WONDER this week as a family. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Take a “Wonder Walk,”
Use a magnifying lens to take an up-close look at the parts of a flower. Think about what all of these different parts might do.
Lie down and watch the clouds drift across the sky. Think about where clouds might come from and why they are always changing shapes.
Keep walking & wondering!
Send a card to someone wonderful in your life. Tell them what you love about them and how you see them making your world a better place.
Watch this amazing video about Leaf-Cutter Ants
Make a list of wonderful things about each person in your family. Thank God for these amazing gifts.
The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson
“The greatest moments in life are the miraculous moments when human impotence and divine omnipotence interest—and they intersect when we draw a circle around the impossible situations in our lives and invite God to intervene.”
“The four words that God spoke at the beginning of time, “Let there be light,” are still creating galaxies at the edge of the universe. If God can do that with four words, what are you worried about? There is nothing He cannot do.”
As I sprinted toward the ten-thousand-foot drop-off, one thought kept repeating itself like a broken record: This is crazy, this is crazy, this is crazy! But it was quickly followed by, This is awesome, this is awesome, this is awesome!”
